ASC Awards is the most special event for cinematographers and this year it has been held for the 33rd time in Los Angeles. The films and TV series such as: Roma, A Star Is Born, Yellowstone, Cold War, The Handmaid’s Tale, etc. were among the nominees of the American Society of Cinematographers this year.
Georgian Cinematographer Giorgi Shvelidze was one of the nominees for Spotlight Award for his work in the film “Namme” directed by Zaza Khalvashi. Other nominees for the Spotlight Award were the cinematographers of the films “Girl” and “The Rider”. Giorgi Shvelidze became the winner and the owner of the Spotlight Award.
The 33rd ASC Awards Ceremony took place on Saturday, February 9, at 7:00 a.m. (7:00) Tbilisi Time, and the live broadcast of the Awards Ceremony was watched by many viewers. This year’s award is special since the American Society of Cinematographers celebrates its 100th anniversary.
This is the second time a Georgian cinematographer has become the Spotlight Award winner; in 2017 Spotlight Award was won by Gorka Gomez Andreu, a Spanish cinematographer who worked on Georgian director Rusudan Glurjidze’s award-winning film “House of Others”.
